3. This shows a decent 6+ card club suit and a "medium/invitational" hand. More than a minimum, but not enough to force to game.

Win the A and play a diamond. This is the key play. You always have to lose 2 diamonds tricks -- and will need the rest. Barring 3-0 clubs offside, you won't lose a trump trick. The key is to avoid losing a heart trick. Sure, you can take a heart finesse (eventually if need be), but there is no hurry. Why play a diamond?

You are hoping for a reasonable diamond position. If so, you might not need the heart finesse.

Trump the spade return and lay down the A. Now is the time to start trump. You didn't do this at trick 2 because you wanted to take advantage of your dummy entry (the A at trick 1) to start diamonds. But, now that you are in your hand, you might as well lay down the A. All follow so you continue with the K to draw the last trump (East throws a diamond).

Play to the K and play another diamond.
It looks like the J was onside (in which case you can set up a good diamond to throw a heart from dummy).
It can't hurt to try. Even if something bad happens in diamonds, you can always trump your third diamond in dummy to take a heart finesse.

You cross to the K and then when you play a low diamond from dummy, East will have to win the king as shown below:

Now, your Q will be good. You can throw a heart from dummy and ruff your J in dummy and not lose a heart trick.

As you can see, taking a heart finesse would have led to down 1 (losing a heart and 2 diamonds).
