In this series of 7 Quizzes (this is the first) our partner opens on the one level and the opponents overcall or Double.
In this quiz, our opponents make a takeout double.
Responder should usually redouble with 10+. But, with 10+ and a very shapely hand, tend to bid naturally (no XX--the opponents might get in your way and prevent you from showing your suits).
If you Pass after the Double, it doesn't really say anything. Usually it is a weak hand. It doesn't show (nor deny) support for the suit partner has opened. For example, 1 (X) Pass is usually 0-6 with nothing special to say (but could be a bit stronger).
New suit bids: forcing on the 1-level, but not on the 2-level. (This is a matter of partnership agreement, but this is a reasonable way to play it). So, 1 (X) 1 is forcing, but 1 (X) 2 is not forcing.
Jump-raise is weak. Example: 1 (X) 3. With a good raise, start with XX or a conventional 2NT.
