Most players like to be dealt a holding like AKxx or AKxxx when on lead against a suit contract. Leading the ace feels somewhat safe. You're getting a trick, a chance to look at dummy, and an opportunity to see partner's signal. Some players, though, don't bother with the second two reasons.
As soon as the ace wins the first trick, the king is on the table for the next trick. We need to take advantage of partner's signal and the dummy to play intelligently after starting with an ace.
