Sometimes you pick up hands with extreme shape. 6-6-1, or a 9-card suit. While any particular weird shape is uncommon, it's not so rare that you pick up SOMETHING weird. That means you have to be able to calculate the worth of these odd hands. Generally speaking, the answer is: bid a lot and if you have a fit bid even more.
