4. Clubs & Hearts. A jump overcall of 2NT the two lowest unbid suits (at least 5-5). This is typically a preemptive/weak bid.

1. 15-18 Balanced, hearts stopped. A 2NT overcall of a weak 2-bid shows approximately a 1NT opening bid (with the opponent's suit stopped). Up to about 18 HCP is possible.

3. 7-11. Could really be a little more or less, but this is a "constructive" bid, showing a notrump hand with the opponent's suit stopped. Don't take out a double to notrump without values. This should deny 4 spades.

*Note--Some expert players use 2NT here as a convention (Lebensohl versus weak 2's).

Other. 2NT after partner's overcall is forward-going, but NF. It shows a stopper in the opponent's suit and about 8-12 HCP (don't be concerned with memorizing exact ranges in this quiz).

4. 13-16. In balancing seat, we "borrow" about 3 points. This range is approximate, but it is like a strong notrump (balanced, their suit stopped), but on the light side.

3. 18-20. Doubling and then bidding notrump shows more than a 1NT opening (or in this case, more than a 2NT overcall).

4. 18-21. You can't preempt in balancing seat, so this shows a strong hand. The range is about 18-21. This is standard, but not well-known; forgiveness if you got this one wrong -- but now you know. Will your partner?
