3. You have too much to bid only 2, 0-8. You don't have enough to jump all the way to game. An invitational (about 9-11) 3 is just right.

You can see only 3 clear losers (a heart and the two black aces).

What can go wrong?

Hearts rate to be 6-2. Look what happens if you win the first trick:

When you play trump, East wins and can set you. Aside from the 2 aces and the heart trick, East will get a trick with his 10. When he plays a heart, West wins and plays a 3rd round -- and you can't shut out the 10.

To prevent this, duck the first trick. If West also has a black ace, c'est la vie.

After the K wins the first trick, you will make your contract.
