In their previous book together, On the Other Hand, David Bird and Larry Cohen presented cardplay instruction in a novel way. 100 pairs of deals were shown -- one described by David and the other by Larry. The deals looked similar (in some cases very similar) but an entirely different line of play was necessary to make each of the contracts. The book was well received and won the 2019 American Bridge Teachers' Association 'Book of the Year' award.
This follow-up volume uses exactly the same approach, but addressesdefense rather than declarer play. Only by clearly understanding thedefensive techniques involved will you be able to defeat such contractswhen you encounter them at the table.

Readability is an important factor for effective instruction. Bird has written over 130 bridge books as well as thousands of articles. Cohen teaches thousands of bridge players on land, on sea and online. So it comes as no surprise that they both write simple prose and deliver clear explanations of the what, why, how and when for each of the hands. Nor that they add a pleasant human touch in the interactions between the two of them which serves to enhance the readability.
