In this series, we are analyzing 1,000,000 deals which were played on-line. These deals cover a wide range of level of play and were provided by Stephen Pickett with Bridge Browser.

In the first two months, we saw that 3NT is the most popular contract, being reached on 18% of all deals. All game contracts combined accounted for roughly half of all deals played.

This month, we asked about slam.

The most common slam contracts, were 6, 6, and 6NT -- each occurring approximately 14,000 times out of the 1,000,000 deals (or 1.4% of the time for each). Cumulatively, small slams were bid on 5.7% of all deals.  Grand slams (with 7NT the most common one) were bid on a little more than 5,000 of 1,000,000 deals--or about half a percent. I suspect the number would be higher in an expert game.

SUMMARY: Slam (small or grand) was bid on 6.2% of the 1,000,000 deals.
