Dear Fellow Bridge Players, I'm
back out on the road, teaching in Montana and then Texas this month. It
still feels a bit strange to watch a major championship (like the
recent Spingold in Toronto) from the sidelines, but so far I have no
regrets. I'll be writing about the exciting final match for Bridge World magazine. I got frustrated watching some of the poor play in the Grand National Teams finals, and wrote about it here. |

Bidding Practice
This fea ture takes center stage for September. There are now 124 deals ready for you to practice. Players of any level wishing
to work with a partner can try this out. One of you take WEST, the
other EAST. Follow the instructions (sometimes North-South will
interfere) and see what your auction and contract are. Then, read the
results--with scoring and analysis. Each month, there will be four new
deals. Warning: These are not easy deals--if you get frustrated, please
send an e-mail to my Antarctica office.

ACBL
columnist, Marilyn Hemenway, graciously gave her permission to publish
her 10 Pet Peeves. I don't know that I could have done a better job
myself. Maybe you can vent along as you read the list.

New Minor Forcing
When I write for Audrey Grant's magazine (for newish players), I try not to get too fancy with the conventions. However, for this article, I couldn't resist mentioning New-Minor Forcing.
